What the Heck is a Chemical Peel?

The name "chemical peel" has a reputation problem. It conjures images of red, peeling skin — which is not what's happening here.

A peel is a solution applied to the skin to dissolve the bonds holding dead skin cells in place. When those layers lift away, what's underneath is smoother, more even, and better able to absorb the products you're already using. Done in a series, spaced roughly 2–4 weeks apart, the cumulative effect on dark spots, texture, fine lines, and acne is significant.

The acid matters. Glycolic works on surface texture, lactic is gentler and more hydrating, salicylic goes after congestion and acne, mandelic is ideal for sensitive or deeper skin tones. Most treatments use cocktail blends, combinations of acids that address more than one concern at once. The right combination is selected based on a skin assessment at the start of every appointment, so there's no standard formula. Every treatment is built around what your skin actually needs that day.

Most peels at Louloùdi are no-downtime treatments. You may leave with a little warmth or pinkness that settles within a few hours, and over the following days some light flaking is normal, that's the exfoliation doing its job. There's no peeling-off-in-sheets moment. Clients leave with clear instructions and samples to address any increased dryness in the days that follow.

One thing to know about how I work: the assessment isn't a formality. If your barrier is compromised or your skin isn't in the right place for exfoliation that day, we'll redirect the treatment accordingly. The goal is always skin that leaves feeling supported and visibly renewed, not pushed past what it's ready for.

For clients targeting hyperpigmentation, melasma, or deeper skin tones, prep matters even more. A two-week protocol using the KrX Mela Defense Whitening Serum before your appointment conditions the skin and helps the peel perform more evenly, and more safely. It's available for retail in-studio, and I'll let you know if it's recommended for your skin ahead of your first treatment.

For clients who want to maintain results between appointments, Louloùdi carries a small selection of professional-grade at-home peels, best used once your skin is already conditioned and you have a treatment plan in place. Browse the peels & exfoliants collection.
